Kevin Bacon revisits ‘Footloose’ high school 40 years after the film’s release

Kevin Bacon's iconic film Footloose

In a heartwarming tribute to the iconic film ‘Footloose’, actor Kevin Bacon made a nostalgic return to Payson High School, the Utah location where the movie was shot. This visit marked the 40th anniversary of the film’s release.

Bacon, now 65, was welcomed back to the educational institution for its final prom before the school is relocated. The actor toured the high school, posed for selfies, and signed shirts and memorabilia. He humorously noted, “Things look a little different around here. I’d say the thing that looks the most different is me”.

The students of Payson High School had launched a social media campaign, #BaconToPayson, performing flash mobs and recreating scenes from the film to invite Bacon. Their efforts paid off when Bacon announced on the Today show that he would be visiting.

Bacon expressed his admiration for the students’ commitment and the power of the movie to bring people together. He highlighted the film’s themes of standing up to authority, being forgiving of people who are different, and standing up for one’s freedoms.

The students, in turn, pledged to create 5,000 “essential resource kits” for youth and schools, out of the nonprofit’s 40,000 goal, to support Bacon’s SixDegrees.org foundation. Bacon praised the students for turning his visit into something positive.
