The Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’ documentary: Long-lost film restored by Peter Jackson set to premiere on Disney+ May 8th

The iconic Beatles documentary ‘Let It Be,’ offering a glimpse into the band’s creative process in early 1969, is finally making a return to screens after over five decades of obscurity. This highly anticipated re-release, restored by acclaimed director Peter Jackson, will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on May 8, 2024.

Originally released in 1970, just a month before The Beatles’ official disbandment, the documentary ‘Let It Be’ has been shrouded in mystery since its limited release in the early 1980s. Fans have yearned for another chance to witness John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr at work— and sometimes at odds—during this crucial period in music history.

The highly anticipated re-release, meticulously restored by acclaimed director Peter Jackson, promises to deliver. The restored version boasts never-before-seen footage, including the band’s legendary rooftop concert – their final live performance together. Jackson’s restoration goes beyond visuals; the audio quality has also been significantly enhanced using the same MAL de-mix technology that brought his acclaimed 2021 docuseries ‘The Beatles: Get Back’ to life. The process ensures a truly immersive experience for fans, allowing them to feel like they’re right there in the studio with the Fab Four.

The documentary will offer an opportunity for a new generation to discover (or rediscover) this pivotal moment, and for longtime fans to experience it with a fresh perspective thanks to the restoration. Interestingly, Peter Jackson views both ‘Let It Be’ and ‘The Beatles: Get Back’, that used outtakes from the original ‘Let It Be’ filmed by director Michael Lindsay-Hogg, as interconnected pieces of a larger historical puzzle. He considers ‘Let It Be’ the gripping climax to the narrative arc started by ‘Get Back,’ offering a complete picture of the band’s creative journey in their final months together.

Mark your calendars, Beatles fans! On May 8th, ‘Let It Be’ makes its grand return exclusively on Disney+. Get ready to step back in time and experience the timeless music and enduring legacy of The Beatles.
